M12.9 Blog: Climate Change

You've learned a lot about climate change this week.
BLOG about the following:

1. What do you personally find most troubling about climate change?
To me the most troubling thing about climate change is the idea that people in our society do not believe that it is happening and that it is a real thing. It is really crazy, currently that people in power do not want to recognize the huge changes happening to our environments. I also find it sad that future generations will not know many of the amazing natural beauties that are around today. 

2. As a public health professional, what do you think needs the greatest attention right now?

I think the biggest thing we need to pay attention to right now are our water systems and the way we treat our water. This issue affects every aspect of life and if a better solution is found then I believe we will see improved health outcomes moving forward.

3. If you were visiting with a long-lost relative who had never heard about climate change, how would you describe it and its attendant human health and ecological threats?

I would explain it in context of our family. For example, how would you feel if one person in our household decided they no longer wanted to be around anymore because they dont like the way you cook. And you can make changes to keep them around if you care enough to shift some of the things you do. Once they seemed to understand that analogy then i would explain things in the environmental context.

    I like your idea of explaining concerns (climate change or otherwise) in the context of your family. It was very clever of you to come up with the analogy of making changes to keep family members around if you care enough. I think that plays perfectly into how we should treat our environment. If we saw the earth and the environment more as our own homes, maybe we would make the necessary changes to keep it around longer.

    Great idea to explain concerns within the family context! I agree that climate change is something that needs to be paid more attention to. I definitely think it is just crazy that people do not believe this is a real thing. More education definitely needs to be provided on this topic.
