Lead Poisoning by Hebert Needleman
Hebert Needleman explores the changes in research that moved from examining high lead levels due to infrequent but high intensity exposures that caused many effects, versus frequent exposures with little to no side effects. This juxtaposition of cases allows researchers to understand how and in what amounts lead affects the system. In either case; small or large amounts, lead exposure is responsible for fundamental changes in many different living organisms.
The article further explores the ways in which we deal with lead poisoning when exposures can not be measured by symptoms. In these asymptomatic cases how do we monitor and treat those who have been exposed. The article also explores the ways in which preventative methods can lead to economic relief. It is important to recognize that health crises not only harm the health of our society but it also greatly affects the economic livelihood of many individuals and communities.

I think this response was executed so well. The piece of this kind of collaboration is the way in which these western countries and organizations took the time to teach the proper methods to the local authorities in order to boost self-efficacious behavior. This kind of identification and execution is critical in ensuring the success and the health of rural communities.

I also think that the response made to lead poisoning outbreak was great in that Western organizations were able to come together to achieve a common goal. It really shows the potential to make significant changes in many aspects of our world and society if we are able to pull our resources together for the benefit of everyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the response made to the outbreak of lead poisoning was well executed in that article. I definitely think that we need to take more of these approaches within our own communities. Often times, people are not educated on things like this, therefore they do not know what symptoms to look out for or how to prevent/minimize exposures. By educating we are ensuring public safety.
