M8.5 Blog about an ideal chemical policy

After watching all of the provided videos and reading material blog about what you think is essential for an ideal chemical policy and then elaborate on one of the elements from a public health protection perspective.

Ideally chemical policies should address the concerns of the public in collaboration with the research in order to address challenges efficiently. More and more research is describing more chemicals in our air, food, water, and overall environment. Chemical policies need to address how chemicals affect development throughout the lifespan in order to help the largest amount of people. Many times these topics focus on a specific group of people, but the presence of harmful toxins not only affect adults, or children, but they affect both groups and the over arching environment.

From the public health protection perspective I    would develop a chemical policy that addresses these challenges systematically. In this system it would look at each chemical and explain what the effects look like at different developmental stages in order to explain how this impacts the larger community. Then I    would incorporate how this then is compounded among larger or more at risk communities. I    would create policies that address these communities and ensure that everyone is protected under the policy.

  1. Hi, I enjoyed reading your blogs this week. I agree that chemical policies would be extremely important to have. I also agree that we need to look at how chemicals affect us throughout our entire lifespan as opposed to just during childhood, etc. I like your idea of developing a policy that addresses the entire lifespan of people. I think it's a great idea.

  2. I admire your emphasis on policies considering the person throughout one's life. Even before people are born, they are already exposed to many chemicals and substances in the environment. I also think your idea of gathering information on the effects of chemicals during different developmental stages is a great one and more work on this should be done.
